Abstract

Translation is an intercultural means of communication, but what if the recipients of the translation are children, who need simplification as well as protection in a growing translation business and a cultural diversity? How do translators reformulate culturemes in children's literature? Do they preserve foreign cultural elements or do they respect the cultural values of the target linguistic community?

To answer these questions, we propose this work entitled "Paraphrasing of culturemes in translated children's literature", a descriptive analysis of some texts of Jean de la Fontaine and Charles Perrault, translated into Arabic. The results show many culturemes in the texts and the use of several translation processes, including explicitation, which respect the cultural specificities of the target language.
