Abstract

This study aims to stand on the role of the liberalization of foreign trade in raising the competitiveness of the food industries in Algeria, and this by analyzing the contribution of the food industries in structuring the GDP as well as the trade balance during the period between 1992-2017.

The study concluded that the foreign trade liberalization policies adopted by Algeria resulted in the expansion of the number of importers and the rise in imports at the expense of exports, due to the lack of readiness of these industries in terms of quality to compete with their counterparts in international markets.
