The reformist movement’s flags are considered to be among the inimitable personalities
of enlightened giving and sincere national struggle. Their talents and activities varied. They
were seasoned politicians, preachers and brilliant writers. Among these were Sheikh Abdul
Hamid bin Badis and Sheikh Ibrahim Abi Al-Yaqzan, who devoted their entire lives to
purifying Algerian society from the effects The colonial policy and the cracks it left behind had
a great impact on the foundations of national identity, as each of them sought to awaken the
consciences of the Algerians, and to contribute to achieving an intellectual and educational
renaissance in popular circles. Creating a generation imbued with Islam, Arabism and
patriotism, so that it does not weaken or collapse in the face of the integrative colonial policy.
The scholars fought the policy of France and naturalization, and everything related to heresies and superstitions. These reformers used a number of means, the most important of which is the
establishment of free Arab schools, to teach the Arabic language, its culture and the rules of
religion It also opened them to associations and clubs to help young people get rid of their
ignorance and illiteracy, and to invite them to carry out their responsibilities in the
contemporary world, and to establish The press, whose purpose is religious, social, educational
reform and other works.
