Abstract

This study aims to uncover the integrative dimension within the historical project of Imad al-Din Khalil. His approach to historical writing is not based on a fragmented, one-dimensional interpretation; rather, it is grounded in a comprehensive and integrated vision that connects multiple cognitive and intellectual dimensions. This research addresses the following problem: What is the nature of Imad al-Din Khalil’s historical project, and what are its main intellectual and methodological foundations?

Among the key findings is that Imad al-Din Khalil يرى that Islamic history cannot be understood in isolation from the civilizational, doctrinal, and value-based framework that produced it. Accordingly, he integrates the doctrinal (faith-based) dimension with the rational-analytical, as well as the social and civilizational dimensions, so that historical events become part of an interconnected system rather than isolated occurrences.

The integrative dimension in his thought is also evident in his rejection of rigid disciplinary divisions. He advocates drawing on sociology, Islamic thought, and philosophy in interpreting history, since historical events, in his view, are not explained by a single factor but by the interaction of multiple factors.

Thus, Imad al-Din Khalil’s historical interpretation is founded on a comprehensive integrative vision that regards history as a tool for understanding humanity, civilization, and social laws. It is not merely a narration of events, but a profound reading of the meaning of historical movement in light of the Islamic worldview of existence and life.
