Abstract

This research aims to shed light on the educational functions of the mosque in contemporary Muslim society through a comparative analytical study that places the functions of the church and the synagogue in their critical context, as two models of the development of religious institutions in their own contexts. The research required defining the concept of educational function, demonstrating the importance of the mosque and its spiritual functions, reviewing the historical role played by the mosque in early Islam, then providing a critical analytical overview of the educational functions in the church and the synagogue to reveal their strengths and weaknesses, analyzing the reality of the educational functions of the mosque in light of contemporary changes, and discussing the challenges facing its influence.

 The research adopted the descriptive analytical method and the comparative method, and it became evident in the final analysis that activating the educational functions of the mosque contributes to achieving social cohesion and combating extremism, that preachers have a pivotal role in raising awareness, and that the mosque has a positive impact in immunizing individuals intellectually and behaviorally.

 The research concluded that it is necessary to return the educational model of the mosque to its authentic Islamic essence as embodied in the Prophetic era, and to benefit from comparative analysis to understand contemporary challenges, while rejecting the idea of borrowing or imitation that detracts from the Islamic specificity of the mosque.
