The teaching of human and social sciences in the Algerian university and the citizenship building failure

The paper deals with the issue of citizenship building within the Algerian university through the teaching of human and social sciences. This task faces two major constraints: Firstly, the absence of a sound social need sustaining these sciences and giving them legitimacy. On the other hand, these sciences are hardly accepted politicaly speaking compared to technology fields. Hence, the paper aims to question the Algerian university capability of citizenship building and some methodological arrangements were taken in consideration so as to meet the objective: overview the literature-looking at the writer biography-interviews with teachers. The outcome of the study reveals that the university is not the appropriate space for building citizenship for reasons related to human resources working within human and social sciences. Furthermore, this task according to some interviews, is to be accomplished by other institutions owning huge influence on society.
