Abstract

Abstract The educational institution is a space for education, it assumes the function of socialization and preparation of future generations it's really a sublime and sacred function, so it was necessary that this active institution should be granted to of particular interest that reflects the place it deserves. There is no doubt that the exterior design and shape public buildings in general and education in particular reflected the prestige and importance attached to this institution in any society, and in view of the important role played by the school, there must be a school building in the level of this role. On this basis, this paper aims detect socio- cultural dimensions of the colonial school buildings in Algeria, as well as highlight the reality of school architecture in Algeria after independence. The study found that the colonial school buildings in Algeria share many architectural features that can be studied to take advantage. The study also confirmed that the school buildings in independent Algeria suffer from an architectural identity crisis, which was not taken into account in its design urban standards and climate conditions of each region , and social particularities and cultural values of society.
