Study habits are an indispensable part of the learning process; they can affect students’ academic achievement in a way that may enhance or hinder it. A habit is essentially a practice or an activity performed systematically without the need to think about it or find any difficulty in retaining it. Effective study habits require a good mindset and the determination to create or develop an existing one. The current work aimed to investigate the following study habits: note-taking, time management strategies, procrastination, and the exploration of educational sources, used by second-year students in the department of English at Batna 2 University.
The study revolved around the assumption that students who achieved a high CGPA (cumulative grade point average) were practicing effective study habits more efficiently compared to their peers with an average CGPA. To test and track this assumption, the researchers conducted a quantitative research design. A 4-point Likert scale questionnaire was designed and distributed to 132 students using a random sampling technique, along with a T-test to analyze and evaluate whether the two groups were significantly different from each other. The dataset revealed statistical differences between the studied groups.
