Polysemy in the Holy Qur’an ‘between translation and interpretation A case study of four English translations of the word ‘AYA’

This research aims to shed light on a linguistic phenomenon based on the word- meaning relationship. It investigates the translators’ accuracy in conveying the meanings of the word ‘aya’ (verse) in the holy Quran which is said to be polysemic according to linguists and exigetes. The research finds out that context and exegesis are necessary in translating the correct denotation of such words.
