Abstract

The departure of Al-Hussein from Macca to Iraq is one of the problematic issues for
historians because of the contradicting narratives with different interpretations. The current
study attempts to throw light on the real reasons which led Al-Hussein to move out to Iraq and
the reaction of the Prophet's companions by investigating the narratives that tackle the issue of
AlHussein's departure to Iraq and picking out the authentic ones. The study concluded that the
real reason for his departure was an ijtihad or an independent reasoning done during unusual
circumstances. This action met a clear opposition from the prophet's companions who could
predict his killing
