Abstract

This study examines the novel Semi-Dead by Rula Husseinat from a narrative-existential perspective. It explores the representation of existential impairment in the construction of the fictional world.The study argues that impairment is not depicted as a temporary psychological condition,but as an existential state suspended between life and death, presence and absence.

The research combines narrative analysis with existential interpretation. It focuses on the structure of characters, temporality, and memory in the novel. The analysis reveals fragmented identities and a profound sense of alienation. It also highlights a disrupted narrative temporality shaped by painful memories. Furthermore, impairment extends beyond the characters to the narrative structure itself. Fragmentation, linguistic economy, and semantic silence reflect human fragility. The study concludes that the novel presents a troubled vision of existence marked by anxiety and incompleteness
