Poverty is one of the complex issues affecting countries with fragile economies due to economic dependency. Most of these nations strive to strengthen their energy sector, as it is the foundation of industrial and agricultural production. Egypt is among them, having worked to develop its energy production system and increase gas output to reduce unemployment and poverty. However, economic crises in the energy sector disrupted this progress, transforming Egypt from an oil and gas exporter in the 1970s to an importer in the early 2000s. This shift led to the closure of industrial companies, raising unemployment to 25% and poverty to 32.5%. This study addresses a central question: how have crises in Egypt’s energy sector affected poverty rates? It aims to highlight the impact of these crises on rising unemployment in Egyptian society, using a descriptive approach to analyze data on the scale of economic challenges in the energy sector and their effects on unemployment and poverty.
