Abstract

This article, titled "The Connection between the Oath and the Swearer in the Beginnings of Surahs and its Relation to thematic Interpretation in Habannakah al-Maydani's 'Ascents of Reflection'", addresses a research problem related to a type of connection between verses of the Quran: the connection between the oath and the swearer, which appears at the beginnings of Quranic chapters. It examines the extent of Abd al-Rahman Habannakah al-Maydani's interest in this connection, as demonstrated in his commentary, "Ascents of Reflection and Subtleties of Contemplation".

The article's significance lies in highlighting the efforts of a contemporary commentator in this area and demonstrating its importance to him. It also explores how this connection is employed in thematic interpretation by al-Maydani, who is considered a pioneer of thematic interpretation both theoretically and practically. The article concludes that al-Maydani paid close attention to explaining this connection both theoretically and practically, and that he utilizes it to clarify the meanings of Quranic verses. Furthermore, he adopted it as a principle for resolving differences of opinion. Finally, the article concludes that al-Maydani employs this connection in thematic interpretation by linking it to the theme and lessons of the surah.
