This study aims to shed light on the impact of social media addiction and lack of physical activity on the mental and physical health of young people. Excessive use of social media platforms is a factor that leads to the deterioration of mental health by increasing rates of stress, anxiety, and depression, due to constant exposure to negative content and social comparisons. This addiction also impairs the quality of sleep and concentration.
On the physical level, prolonged engagement in digital activities leads to a decrease in physical activity, which increases the risk of obesity and chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. It also causes weak muscle strength and body flexibility due to sitting for long periods.
The study recommends the need to achieve a balance between the use of social media and physical activity to improve overall health. Awareness of the importance of sports activities and limiting the time spent on virtual social communication can be raised to reduce the negative effects on young people.
