Theater in Algeria: from the "Karagöz" Puppets to the seasonal festivals

Theater is a multi-expression dramatic art. Despite the antiquity and specificity of its Greco-Roman origin, its practice has crossed time and space, including Algeria in its ancient and modern history, and through several aspects. This article aims to present the development of theatrical practice in Algeria through its various historical periods. Focusing on some shadow areas and some practices and events that have been experienced in contemporary Algeria drama. It will try to shed light on the most important periods which reflect a situational societal reality characterized by elitist, resistant, popular and political dramaturgic expressions.
