This research paper deals with studying the activity of Zaitouna students and scholars in the Tunisian national movement during the French protection period from 1881 until independence in 1956 through archival documents from the Tunisian National Archives.
1- Introducing the Zaitouna students and scholars and their role in preserving the Arab-Islamic identity of Tunisia.
2- The most important events and facts that they contributed to effectively from the beginning of the protection until the establishment of the Free Constitutional Party in 1920.
3- Their activities and their control of the Free Constitutional Party through French archival documents at the level of the Tunisian National Archives.
4- Their participation in the Tunisian armed resistance in the 1950s through also Tunisian archival documents.
5- The reaction of the French occupation against the activity of Zaitouna students and scholars, because it realizes the strength and effectiveness of the Zaitouna in thwarting its colonial projects.
