In theory and law, the concept of citizenship has taken on a great deal of sociologists’ and humanities specialists’ interest both at the local and global levels, regarding its crucial importance in modern societies. The significance of this concept lies mainly in the fact that it includes a range of political, economic, social, cultural and many other issues. Algerian legislators have organized a set of laws seeking to establish citizenship as a value and a social practice. But in fact, many indicators rather show an absence of citizenship as a social practice.
Accordingly, this research paper aims to shed light on the reality of citizenship in the Algerian society, in terms of its social and
legal importance (Algerian Constitution). The present work aims also to highlight the contradictory reality which rather characterize
citizenship with a social exclusion which is considered as one of the most important social problems our society today is facing.
