The philosophy of civilization according to Arnold Toynbee

Abstract

Civilization ismeasured, according to philosophers, by the progress achieved since 6000
years around the world thanks to some conditions. some are linked to Man, the others to the
environment. one of the greatest researchers, Arnold Toynbee. Through this paper we are
going to find out the main results he reached, starting from his civilization's concept, he
suggests that society and civilization are the same thing, then we will see the causes that led
him to oppose choosing among civilizations, finally we will discuss his view on
contemporaneity of civilizaions despite they were distant
