Reading literature provides manifold benefits beyond language development. This study explores Algerian EFL students' perceptions of studying literature, focusing on six aspects: language progress, personal growth, interpersonal skills, cultural understanding, literary proficiency, and cognitive development. Surveying 73 Algerian university students, results reject the null hypothesis on 13 items out of 24 in the one-sample Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Cluster analysis identifies two distinct student groups based on perceptions. Findings highlight the need for tailored literature curricula and instruction for Algerian EFL students. Educators should expose students to a range of literature-based activities, placing emphasis on writing skills and literary argumentation.
