Abstract

This article deals with the analysis of the idea of the commodification of poetry, that is, the way in which the poetic statement becomes a saleable object, for a specific price determined by the recipient/buyer, whatever its identity. This is the principle that we tried to prove, through one of the ancient literary salons, the salon of the caliph Al Mahdi, in the presence of the poet Ibn El Khayat El Makki. This poet managed to obtain fifty thousand dirhams (silver), by quoting his poem that describes the qualities of the caliph, but this amount did not satisfy the poet, so he tried to ask more indirectly, thanks to his linguistic performance and poetic instinct, what it allowed to have fifty thousand dinars (gold) more, from the caliph Al Mahdi. The article also provides a detailed analysis of how the concept of commodification immerses the details of the creative experience. Which makes poetry a way to earn money instead of being a purely artistic objective
