Abstract

Determining the structure of a market for a
specific industry is considered necessary to
understand the market structure of that industry.
In addition, determining the market structure for
an industry contributes to understanding its
relationship with the remaining elements of the
SCP model for the industry and identifying the
relationship between structure and performance
by determining the relationship between their
most important indicators, namely concentration
and profitability. This is what this study has
addressed by examining the Algerian
pharmaceutical industry from 2010 to 2018.
The study concluded that the nature of the
Algerian pharmaceutical market is competitive,
based on a set of concentration measurement
indicators, in addition to determining the
relationship between the structure of the
pharmaceutical industry and its performance,
which is an inverse relationship. This is contrary
to what is known and circulated in the literature
of industrial economics, led by Joe Bain.
