Abstract

The article discusses the US-declared war on terror's extensions to Africa. In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, African countries, like other countries in the world, were quick to condemn the bombings, during which US policy was turned upside down and moved their warships and armies into the Middle East. It has occupied Afghanistan with the intention of striking the Taliban and al Qaeda strongholds. Soon after, it invaded Iraq under the pretext of possessing weapons of mass destruction. The war on terror was declared when President Bush declared it an indefinite war of time, place and enemies. It was a war against all terrorists at any time and place. In the midst of this American frenzy, Africa has not been spared from the American pressure to cooperate with it in its war against terrorism in an attempt to remove the suspicion of complicity from itself, with some countries expressing their reservations to demand not to expand the scope of the war or provide sufficient evidence before punishing those involved in terrorist operations. Even countries known for their hostile stance towards US policy have only had to agree to support the United States in its war on terrorism, making both East and West Africa one of the most important theaters of operations in that continent.
