Elements of achieving energy security in Algeria: a statistical analytical study for the period 1999-2018

Abstract

Energy is at the top of the list of concern and attention for most countries and economic institutions at the present time, particularly in terms of ensuring energy security, and that is exactly what Algeria is striving to achieve in light of its production and consumption instability in the sector that is most prominent in its policies. Therefore, this research paper aims to highlight the reality of energy security in Algeria and then attempts to perceive the future of its energy security. By analysing the data presented during the study period extending from 1999 to 201, a statistical study was adopted, which included the growth patterns of both energy production and consumption, to portray a clearer future of energy security in Algeria, in order to come up with the appropriate ingredients for success in ensuring sustainable energy security in the future.
The research paper concluded that the reality of energy security in Algeria during the study period was in favour of the Algerian economy because of the significant greater value of energy production compared to the value of energy consumption. However, according to the above mentioned variables, the study suggests that energy security will not be achievable in the future as a result of the inability of energy production to keep pace with the ever-increasing energy consumption..
