Abstract

The archival documents of the archive centers in Algeria and Turkey are among the most important sources that highlight the nature of the Ottoman-Algerian relations. This study aims at questioning the archives of the Algerian National Library, which dates back to a highly sensitive stage in Algeria's recent history. The documents examined date back to the end of the 18th and early 19th centuries, during which Algeria, as well as the Ottoman Empire, were going through severe crises as a result of the political and economic transformations experienced by Europe, as well as the changes experienced by the Ottoman Empire. This has been negatively reflected in the status of the state and in the various states to which it was associated. One of the worst consequences of this was the French occupation of Algeria and the loss of the Ottoman Empire to its first and most important Iyala in the Arab and Islamic Maghreb.
