Malek Bennabi is considered one of the most important Arab and Islamic thinkers. His previous ideas were the basis for the intellectual theory of the Islamic Renaissance in the modern era, where the issue of civilization was a central focus of his intellectual work; the subject is controversial among many thinkers. This paper discusses the problematic of Islam and civilization according to this Renaissance thinker, through analyzing and discussing his view on the role played by the Islamic religion in the making of the Muslim civilization, as an attempt to find answers to the following questions: What is the concept of Bennabi about civilization and the role played by Islam in the making of the Muslim civilization? What are the factors behind the failure of Muslims? What is the way to re-establish the Islamic world ?
