Abstract

The current study aimed to construct the Psycho-social Life Skills among young people
Scale (10-24 years) (PSLS-YS), and verify its psychometric properties using the descriptive
method by applying the scale on a sample of (301) young people from Mila-Algeria. In its
final form, the scale included (62) Items on three main axes: the cognitive-oriented life skills
axis, the emotional-oriented life skills axis, and the socially-oriented life skills axis. The
scale’s and its versions' through its axes psychometric properties are high on both validity and
reliability (Cronbach's alpha (0.902) and split-half (0.931)) and consistent with the characteristics of a good scale. The most prevalent psycho-social life skills among the sample
members were identified with the cognitive-oriented life skills, followed by the emotionallyoriented life skills and then the socially-oriented skills. It is recommended to use the (PSLSYS) scale or its multiple versions through its axes in various scientific studies on life skills
among young people (adolescents and young adults) and in various specialized environments
for assessment and evaluation
