Abstract

In Aures Region, Women play pivotal role in revival of Peasant Feasts with
ritual practices reflecting heritage and identity of the region. The present study
investigates Eurasian women’s celebration of January Peasant feast and itssymbolic
connotations.
It comprises a sample of –Ali Bin Sabour- kindred in belzma area in
highlighting historical dimensions,women’s most important ritualistic and
peasantpractices,famous games and sympolic dimensions to some practices. The
study aims at shedding light on historical background of January Feast and practices
constiting symbolic dimensions. The researcher adopted the descriptive approach to
prtrayfeast celebrations, important ritual and and agricultural practices through
interviews; and the historical method by inducing various reference.The research
findings reveal that these practices are used to denote set of behavioural patterns
related to specific time and place that continue to be respected by the group; having
symbolic connotations expressing identity of residents of this region.
