Abstract

During the past two decades, the demographic information system in Algeria has undergone a
revolution by conducting many operations of collecting demographic data, the most important of
which are censuses and surveys, in order to monitor the state of the population and justify the state's
obligations with some international organizations. Statistical analyses of these data are direct
methods, and their quality has not been officially confirmed. In this context, this paper came to verify
the quality of the demographics data by age and sex in the 2008 Algerian census using indirect
measurement methods, and the diagnosis concluded that there is a weakness in the quality of age and
gender data, especially in those interior and southern regions, which calls for reconsideration. In the
data available in the hands of policymakers and actors in order to make a correct decision
